The Build Bulletin - May 2023

Updates on Elvington, Wheldrake and Stockton on the Forest

29 June 2023

Elvington

Connections are ongoing in Elvington! In May, we had the pleasure of connecting the Elvington Scouts Group to full fibre!

Cub Scout Erin McEwan-Wright, eight, is one of 85 scouts who can now benefit from full fibre broadband, the UK’s fastest, and more reliable broadband technology.

She said: “I use my iPad for Times Table Rockstars which helps me learn my times tables. I also use my laptop for playing horse games, the quicker the internet is the quicker I can feed and groom my horses!”. Read the York Press article for more information.

In June, FACTCO are building the final pieces of the network so it will reach properties around the airfield. Once this area is built and tested, residents will be contacted immediately to schedule an installation appointment.

Wheldrake

This month, alongside home installations, FACTCO continued putting the finishing touches on Wheldrake’s full fibre network! Read a sector-by-sector summary of May's progress below.

Not sure what sector you’re in? Check here!

Sector 1: The team are on track to build, splice, and test this section of the network this month. To those who have been patiently waiting for a connection in this area, you’ll be contacted to schedule your installation appointment in the coming weeks! Stay tuned.

All that’s left to do is blow, splice, and test the fibre network! If you’ve registered your interest with FACTCO online, the home install team will be in touch as soon as full fibre is available for your property.

Sector 2: The team are waiting for a wayleave to be finalised before they can bring full fibre to Black Lane South. Although this is yet to be resolved, they are still working hard to obtain permission.

Further progress in sector 2 will depend on whether the abovementioned wayleave can be obtained. Again, stay tuned for an update next month!

Sector 3: FACTCO's design team are looking at alternative ways to deliver fibre to Main Street and Millfield Court.

Apologies to those affected by issues. We appreciate these ongoing delays are inconvenient and may cause disappointment. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Stockton on the Forest

In May, FACTCO successfully installed one new pole on Sandy Lane to help connect your distribution route.

*Distribution routes connect the primary nodes to the secondary nodes. They can be built overground using poles or underground through chambers.

On 30 May, the team began blowing, splicing, and testing the network outside 115 The Village working towards Sandy Lane. This work will continue into June.

In June, they will be trimming trees near the golf course on Stone Riggs to make a clear the path for the overground cables. These overground cables will link to the distribution route (which acts almost as the spine for the network).

There will be some work required to blow the fibre from your cabinet all the way through the feeder (spine) and distribution routes. Testing is expected to begin in July.

Home connections will of course depend on a leased line connection. This vital line is the fibre connection between your local cabinet and the internet exchange point. FACTCO are currently waiting for some new equipment to arrive in order to get this one ticked off the list. Stay tuned for further updates!
